Repainting while the home is occupied
The room order is one of the most important decisions in an occupied-home repaint. It should reflect how the household lives, rather than simply following the floor plan from front to back. Set out that order before agreeing when the whole house will be finished.

Map the rooms that must remain available
Identify sleeping arrangements, cooking facilities, bathrooms and any room needed for work or study. Note mobility requirements and spaces used by children or pets. Decide which rooms can close together and which need to be returned before another stage begins. In a large family house, grouping work by use may be more practical than taking an entire floor out of service.
Resolve belongings before the room closes
Agree who moves furniture and where it can go without blocking another part of the programme. Separate items that remain in the room from those needing removal or specialist handling. Record any private cupboards or equipment outside the scope. Once those arrangements are clear, protection can be planned for the room that will actually be presented for work.
Approve colours in the rooms concerned
Set a decision point for samples before preparation advances to the final coating stage. Compare adjoining rooms and include the ceiling and trim in the same review. Where several household members will comment, agree one consolidated instruction. That prevents one doorway from becoming the meeting point of two different versions of the scheme.
Plan the stair and entrance deliberately
Circulation cannot be treated as spare working space between rooms. Agree when the hall, stair turns and front door will be worked on, how the household will move safely and where materials will be kept. Discuss ventilation and the selected coatings' drying requirements in advance. The daily arrangement should be clear to everyone who will enter the property, including visitors and other trades.
Return rooms through an agreed inspection
Review completed surfaces against the room schedule, record any outstanding work and confirm when furniture can return under the product guidance. Carry finish references forward to the next stage so details remain consistent. For an occupied rental home, the landlord's instruction and the residents' access arrangements need to align before dates are confirmed; the same room-by-room clarity remains essential.
