Richmond Painters & Decorators
Decisions made before the first room closes.
A well-defined repaint gives the owner and decorator the same picture of the work. We develop that picture through a surface schedule, sample decisions and a practical sequence, with responsibilities recorded wherever a repair, permission or access arrangement affects the decoration.
Discuss your project
Describe the change you want to make
Begin with the property, the rooms or elevations involved and what has prompted the enquiry. Include wide photographs and close views of damaged areas. Tell us whether the aim is to retain an existing scheme, change the palette or prepare a property for a new occupation. These are different briefs, even when the same number of walls is involved.
Turn the brief into a surface schedule
Identify walls, ceilings, doors, windows and other joinery separately. Mark finishes to keep and defects requiring a decision before painting. Where a surface needs repair or investigation, agree who will address it and when it can be assessed again. This creates a clear boundary between decorative preparation and work that needs a separate instruction.
Approve the palette in its setting
Review sample colours and sheens alongside the retained materials, in the light the room receives. Record choices by room and element, including the less obvious returns and edges. For an exterior, consider the complete elevation as well as the sample at arm's length. Any required consent should describe the same proposed treatment as the decorating schedule.
Agree how the space becomes available
Set out furniture removal, secure entry, deliveries, storage and the hours available for each activity. In an occupied house, connect those arrangements with a usable room order. In a flat, incorporate the shared-building requirements. Confirm how changes will be raised and who can authorise them, so a question discovered during preparation has a clear route to a decision.
Inspect against the agreed instruction
Use the surface list and approved references to review the finished work. Identify any outstanding item and the action agreed for it, then record the finish information for future maintenance. The programme should include the chosen product's drying and use guidance before furniture, fittings or the next trade returns to the decorated area.
